The brand

Twenty-four symbols, one GMT ring

Areson is a one-person project, founded by a collector who goes by Anson. He spent years with Omega, Tudor, Zenith, Breitling and Rolex before deciding that what he actually wanted did not exist, and his framing of the brand name says the rest: he built Areson to give people "A Reason", a reason to feel something about what is on their wrist.

The whole brand currently rests on one idea. The Cultura GMT ring replaces the usual list of world cities with 24 cultural symbols, one for each UTC offset from minus eleven to plus twelve. Big Ben stands in for London, dim sum for Hong Kong, sushi for Tokyo, Aloha for Hawaii, samba for Rio, morna for Cape Verde. The point, as the brand puts it, is that the ring should suggest a memory rather than simply report a time zone.

The debut Origin Series offers three dials against that one ring. The Horizon uses lapis lazuli, The Mosaic uses violet mother-of-pearl, and The Forge is hand-hammered. Natural stone and shell mean no two dials are identical, which is the sort of variation most brands at this price engineer out rather than lean into.

There are two editions. The Core Edition is $999 in 316L steel with the AR-01, based on the Peacock SL3032, 28 jewels and a 40 hour reserve rated to around twenty seconds a day. The Atelier Edition is $1,399 in Grade 5 titanium with The Forge dial and the AR-02, based on the Miyota 9075, which is a true flyer GMT with 42 hours and a tighter ten seconds a day. Both share a 41mm case, 12.85mm thick, 47mm lug to lug, 50m water resistance and lugs that taper from 20mm to 16mm.

Areson is honest about what it is not. The founder says plainly that the brand "does not come from centuries of watchmaking history", and that he works with a single manufacturing partner with nearly thirty years of experience, spending months on case and lug revisions. Each model is limited to 100 pieces in the first batch, with delivery expected in November and December 2026. This is a first release, so there is no track record to judge yet, only the design and the specification.

Who it’s for

You want something with a bit of adventure in it without going all the way to novelty. The Cultura ring and the stone and shell dials give the watch a genuine talking point, but underneath it is still a 41mm GMT on a proven Japanese or Chinese automatic, with sensible proportions and a tapering lug that should wear comfortably. If you like the idea of a watch that carries a story but you still want to wear it on a normal Tuesday, that balance is what Areson is aiming at.

What is the Areson Cultura GMT ring?

It is a 24 hour GMT ring that replaces world city names with 24 cultural symbols, one for each UTC offset from minus eleven to plus twelve. Big Ben marks London, dim sum marks Hong Kong, sushi marks Tokyo, Aloha marks Hawaii and samba marks Rio de Janeiro.

How much do Areson watches cost?

The debut Origin Series has two editions. The Core Edition is $999 in 316L stainless steel with either The Horizon lapis lazuli dial or The Mosaic mother-of-pearl dial. The Atelier Edition is $1,399 in Grade 5 titanium with the hand-hammered Forge dial. Both include a two year warranty and worldwide shipping.

What movements does Areson use?

Two. The AR-01 in the Core Edition is based on the Peacock SL3032, with 28 jewels, a 40 hour power reserve and accuracy quoted at around twenty seconds a day. The AR-02 in the Atelier Edition is based on the Miyota 9075, a true flyer GMT with 24 jewels, 42 hours of reserve and accuracy quoted at around ten seconds a day.

How big is the Areson Cultura GMT?

41mm in diameter, 12.85mm thick and 47mm lug to lug, with 50m water resistance. The lugs taper from 20mm down to 16mm, and the straps are a suede and FKM hybrid or leather, both with a quick release system.

Is Areson a new brand?

Yes. Design work began in 2024 and the Origin Series is its debut collection, limited to 100 pieces per model in the first batch, with delivery expected in November and December 2026. It is run by a single founder working with one manufacturing partner, so there is no track record to assess yet.
